Sport and Events Information!

Lawn Bowling

The PEI 55+ Games will feature a lawn bowling event governed by Lawn Bowls Canada rules. Participants will roll biased balls to get them as close as possible to a smaller target ball, the "jack" or "kitty," on a green divided into rinks. The game format is pairs, with two teams of two players each using four bowls. A coin toss decides the starting team, which rolls the jack and centers it. Players take turns delivering bowls, and the team with the closest bowl scores points. The match consists of multiple ends, with the highest-scoring team winning. Key rules include repositioning the jack if it goes out of bounds, penalizing foot faults, and removing dead bowls.

Auction 45s

Players can look forward to Auction 45s, adhering to the standard rules of the game. Participants will compete to win tricks by bidding on the number of points they believe they can achieve. The goal is to secure the highest bid and successfully fulfill it to earn points. To ensure fairness, we will rotate between Auction 45s and regular 45s in alternating Winter and Summer Games, allowing everyone the opportunity to play their preferred version. This rotation ensures a balanced and inclusive experience for all participants.

Bocce Ball

Participants can enjoy bocce ball, played according to standard rules. Players will aim to throw their bocce balls closest to the target ball, or "pallino," to score points. The game is played on a smooth, level surface, with each team taking turns to throw their balls. Points are awarded based on the proximity of the balls to the pallino, and the team with the highest score at the end of the match wins. This event promises a fun and engaging experience for all participants.

Cribbage

Participants can engage in cribbage, following the standard rules of the game. Players will aim to score points by creating combinations of cards, pegging on the cribbage board. The game involves dealing, discarding to the crib, and playing cards to 31. Points are earned for various combinations, with the objective of reaching the winning score first. This event offers a strategic and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Pickleball

Participants can enjoy pickleball, played according to standard rules. This fast-paced sport combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Players use paddles to hit a perforated ball over a net on a court similar to a badminton court. The objective is to score points by landing the ball in the opponent’s court without a return. Games are played as doubles formats, with points scored on the serve. This event promises an energetic and engaging experience for all participants.

Cycling

At the PEI 55+ Games, participants can take part in a 10 km cycling race that offers both competition and scenic enjoyment. Cyclists will race along a picturesque route, showcasing the beautiful landscapes of Prince Edward Island. The event is designed to challenge riders while allowing them to appreciate the island's natural beauty. Whether you’re racing to win or simply enjoying the ride, this event promises a memorable experience for all participants.

Golf - Scramble

At the PEI 55+ Games, the golf event will follow the rules of Golf Canada with a few adjustments to enhance team play. Each team of four will tee off on each hole, selecting the best drive and marking its spot. All team members will then take their second shot from within one club length of the selected position, and this procedure continues until the ball is holed out. For putting, the chosen ball position is marked, and all four team members will putt from within 12 inches of this spot. The first ball to go in counts as the team score for that hole.

Special conditions include playing the ball as it lies in a hazard or rough, even if relief is within one club length. Men will tee off from the white tees, while women will use the red tees. In the event of a tie for any medal in any division, ties will be resolved by retrogression. This format ensures a fun and competitive experience for all participants.

Scrabble
At the PEI 55+ Games, Scrabble enthusiasts can dive into a wordplay challenge with standard rules. Players will compete to create high-scoring words on the classic Scrabble board, using letter tiles to build words across and down the grid. Points are awarded based on letter and word values, with opportunities to score big by using premium squares. Whether you're a word wizard or just love a good game of letters, this event offers a fun and mentally stimulating experience for all participants.
