Team Entry Roster Form

The 2012 Canada 55+ Games, to be held in Sydney, NS from Aug. 28-Sep. 1, are a great opportunity for Islanders to participate in a National event. The Games will not likely be held in the Maritimes again for several years. Previous PEI participants can attest that the Games are a great mix of competition and social activities. You don’t have to be an elite competitor to compete and have a good time.

The events offered in Sydney are: Golf (gross, net, calloway), Cycling (time trial, road race), Table Tennis (singles, doubles), Candle pin bowling (singles, team), Cribbage, Darts (singles, doubles), Floor Shuffleboard, Bocce (doubles, fours), Micro Marathon (5k, 10k), Ice Curling (men, women, mixed), Ice Hockey (55, 60, 65, 70), Slo-Pitch Softball, Swimming, Track & Field, Badminton (men, women, mixed), Tennis (men, women, mixed), Washer Toss, 8 Ball Pool, Contract Bridge, Duplicate Bridge, Auction 45′s, Horseshoes, Scrabble.

Micro Marathon (participants from all events are eligible if their schedules permit), Cycling, and Auction 45′s are new events that should attract participation by Islanders. Participation in these events in Sydney will help determine their availability in future Games. Our Winter Games in Summerside and our Summer Games in Cornwall will serve as qualifying events for Sydney. However, as PEI is a small province, we can generally accommodate everyone who wants to participate in the Canada 55+ Games.

All Expenses of attending the Games are the responsibility of each participant.

Approximate costs are: registration- $110 + HST, travel (charter bus) $125, room- 4 nights (shared) $300, plus food and personal expenses. Also, golf, hockey, and curling have surcharges. The registration fee includes your event, local transportation, some entertainment, and 2-3 meals. Assuming sufficient interest, we will book a charter bus. There may be a modest Government subsidy available for travel. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Quality Inn and at the Cambridge Suites for PEI participants. Bus transportation and reserved rooms will be booked through Ernie Stavert. If you wish to stay at a B&B or a small local motel, you should make your own arrangements.

We will begin the registration process for Sydney after the Summerside Games and complete it after the Cornwall Summer Games (June 19-22) with the deadline being June 27. Registration Forms will be available at the Summerside and Cornwall Games, online at the Sydney Games website, www.canada55plusgames2012.com, and also from Ernie Stavert and Valerie Vuillemot at Sport PEI. All completed registration forms and money must be sent to Ernie Stavert or to Sport PEI – note to Sydney. Note: For the month of April, except for e-mail, Ernie will not be available for contact. Technical information on the Sydney Games (rules, age categories, etc.) may be found at www.canada55plusgames.com. All participants, including members of teams, must complete individual registration forms.

There will be a meeting of PEI participants going to Sydney at Sport PEI in room 125 at 6:30pm on Wednesday, June 27 to finalize registrations, rooms, transportation, clothing, and to answer any questions.
